Rules, Behavior & Classroom Management

Rules

My goal for students in First Grade is for them to be "STAR" students. If you take each letter in the word "star" it will be easy to remember the 4 class rules:

1. Show Kindness

2. Take Responsibility

3. Act Safely

4. Respect Everyone

Classroom Management

At Taas, we follow the Love and Logic approach to behavior management and discipline. This approach aims to help students to learn to become independent in their decision making process. Students are given the responsibility to choose and then bear the consequences, good or less good, of that choice. Of course, teachers are there to lovingly guide and support in this process. Students will be treated with empathy, respect. love and logic

Rewards

I believe in the power of positive reinforcement, as well as rewarding students for putting in extra effort. I have, in the class, a PRIZE BOX. Students who earned 10 stars may choose one prize from the box.  The prizes may be stationary, toys or even sometimes snacks. Students can earn stars by following the classroom rules, working hard, handing in neat work, keeping their space tidy, being polite, and doing other kind and positive deeds.

Parent Contact

First Graders are still learning to navigate the new social world they are expected to function in. Sometimes their emotions get the better of them and they make bad choices and mistakes.

It is our job, as teachers and parents, to help students to understand the emotions they experience and to teach them strategies to deal with it in a healthy manner.

When I contact you about misbehavior or mistakes, please know that I am not doing so to punish them. I also don't want to make the problem yours. When I contact you, I have two main goals in mind:

(1) To inform you of the incident/accident so that you may be aware of what happened, and

(2) To ask for your support in helping your child to take responsibility, and also to help me to teach strategies they may use to better handle similar situations, next time.

Love and Logic.webp
